ORA ET LABORA • TO WORK AND PRAY
Welcome to St Benedict's Primary School and thank you for taking the time to learn more about how we can support your child in their first years of formal education.
Founded by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in 1955, St Benedict’s has a long and proud tradition of providing an outstanding Catholic education to a diverse community. Our school motto of ‘To work and pray’ encourages us to live our lives as Jesus taught; a life of love and justice and one that incorporates the balance of work, rest and prayer.
As a proud Catholic school our actions are based on Catholic beliefs and values. We are a place of belonging, and in the spirit of St Benedict ‘All guests who present themselves are to be treated as Christ’. Our greatest belief is that all are 'made in the image and likeness of God' (Genesis 1:27) and so each young person is unique and precious. We feel privileged to share in the responsibility to nurture and grow our young students and so we work hard to ensure every child is known, valued and supported.
At St Benedict’s, we deeply value partnerships and collaboration with parents and the parish. We encourage family involvement in supporting their child’s learning progress, as well as participation in activities that help to build a strong sense of community. The parish also continually provides a great source of faith and life for us all.
As Principal, I feel blessed to be part of the friendly and vibrant St Benedict’s community. Our passionate and dedicated staff are genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of each student, as well as the broader school community. We focus on cultivating an environment and culture that supports the physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of every student.
At St Benedict’s we provide a high quality learning program which fosters academic excellence, whilst respecting individual differences. Our teaching approaches are evidence based and centred upon the key pedagogies of explicit, direct instruction and conceptual inquiry. We place significant emphasis on literacy and numeracy as we believe these are important foundations for learning across all areas. At St Benedict’s we also teach students to have a growth mindset and the importance of being a life-long learner.
We warmly welcome enquiries from all prospective families and look forward to sharing with you all that our wonderful school can offer your son or daughter.
